SINOPSIS

Tras los acuerdos de paz, el Gobierno de Colombia encarga a la escultora Doris Salcedo hacer una obra de arte con las armas entregadas por la guerrilla de las FARC y fundidas en grandes hornos. La escultora invita a mujeres víctimas de violencia sexual de todos los actores del conflicto (FARC, paramilitares, Ejército) a martillear y forjar el metal resultante de la quema de las armas. El resultado es una catarsis que las empodera; dejan atrás el dolor y exigen reparación y justicia, mientras nos dan una lección de reconciliación y paz. Como afirma una de ellas, “si se pueden fundir las armas, también se puede fundir el odio de este país”.

After the peace agreements, the Government of Colombia commissions the sculptor Doris Salcedo to make a monument with the weapons handed over by the FARC guerrilla and melted in large ovens. The sculptor invites women victims of sexual violence of all the actors of the conflict (FARC, paramilitaries, Army) to hammer and forge the metal resulting from the burning of the weapons. The result is a catharsis that empowers them; they leave behind the pain and demand reparation and justice, while they give us a lesson in reconciliation and peace. As one of them states, “if weapons can be melted, the hatred of this country can also be melted”.

Entre otros premios, cuenta con un Premio IRIS de la Academia de TV por su valiente cobertura de la guerra civil siria. Con su productora escribe y produce contenidos de ficción y actualidad para canales internacionales gracias a su excepcional creatividad y experiencia.

Director, scriptwriter and novelist. Awarded war correspondent, she reports from the most dangerous conflicts on the planet such as Georgia, Afghanistan, Mali, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Venezuela, Iraq, and others. Among other awards, she has an IRIS Award from the TV Academy for her courageous coverage of the Syrian civil war. With his production company she writes and produces fiction and current affairs content for international channels thanks to her exceptional creativity and experience.

NOTA DE LA DIRECTORA:

La violencia sexual masiva contra las mujeres es un acto de terror omnipresente en todos los conflictos con hombres armados en cualquier parte del planeta. Sin embargo, nunca escuchamos las voces de las víctimas de estos crímenes. La escultora Doris Salcedo pidió a las mujeres violadas por todas las partes del conflicto en Colombia que participaran en la creación de un Monumento por la Paz, dándoles importancia y poniendo fin a una injusticia testimonial. Las víctimas nos hablan directamente y nos dan una lección de resistencia, solidaridad y reconciliación para un mundo en paz. La película narra cómo las armas dejadas por las FARC se convierten en una obra de arte para la memoria, ya que sólo el arte puede transformar las cosas. La quema de las armas y su fusión en un fuego transformador, da a la película un significado catártico y un punto de vista positivo inédito en este tipo de temas: las mujeres dejan atrás el dolor y el drama, son fuertes y nos muestran compasión y esperanza en un futuro mejor. La guerra de Colombia duró 52 años y dejó más de 8 millones de muertos. La guerrilla de las FARC-EP fue la más larga de la historia, y dejó atrás sus armas después de un acuerdo de paz que aún no está bien establecido en Colombia.

Massive sexual violence against women is as an ever-present act of terror in all conflict with armed men anywhere on the planet. However, we never hear the voices of the victims of these crimes. The sculptor Doris Salcedo asked women raped by all parts of the conflict in Colombia to participate in the creation of a Monument for Peace, giving them importance and ending a testimonial injustice. The victims speak directly to us and give us a lesson of resilience, solidarity and reconciliation for a peaceful world. The film narrates how the weapons left by the FARC become a work of art for memory, as only art can transform things. The burn of the weapons and their melting into a transforming fire, gives to the film a cathartic meaning and a positive point of view unseen in this kind of subject: women leave behind pain and drama, they are strong and show us compassion and hope in a better future. Colombia’s war lasted 52 years and left more than 8 million dead. The extreme left-wing guerrilla of the FARC-EP was the longest in history, and left behind their weapons after a peace agreement that is not yet well-established in Colombia.

“The short documentary FRAGMENTOS was released on 22 March 2019 at the Malaga Film Festival (Spain) and had a great success and impact on the public and the Spanish press; audience were not only moved, but also became aware of the scourge of sexual violence in Colombia and the world. The film aims to spread the voice of the victims of the Colombian conflict to all corners of the planet, and has been chosen in the Official Selection of several prestigious international Cinema Festivals, such as the MECAL International Festival in Barcelona in April, or the Busan International Festival in North Korea (BIFF) in May, among others” (Mayte Carrasco)
